1846-03-25-Middletown CT Constitution-One of its Evils
- Middletown CT Constitution, v.IX n430, p. 3
"One of its Evils.——The fact that a man has been imprisoned in the Litchfield County Jail, for selling some ardent spirits, that had been ordered by a physician TO BATHE THE PERSON OF A WOMAN IN DISTRESS, exhibits one part of the enormity of the license law of the last session."
Really, it is a fact, though, Mr. Times, that the rum was ordered by a physician to bathe the person of a woman in distress? Ha, ha, ha, ha!
Here is another piece which we copy from the same paper. It is among the advertisements, but probably got there through mistake:
"ELOPEMENT!——My wife, ROSETTE KING, having eloped with two Mormon Elders, I hereby forbid all persons harboring or trusting her.
- "Thaddeus King, No. 7 Ellery st.
- "Hartford, March 16, 1846."
Eloped with two Elder Mormons, did she? Naughty woman!! Will the locos make this elopement a subject for political speculation? But give us, Mr. Times, more anon about the physician, the woman in distress and the rum!!
