- 1908 - Born in Virginia City, MT, the son of Lew L. Sr., a state district judge who later served 13 years as Chief Justice of the Montana Supreme Court[1].
- ???? - Married the former Helene Anderson, who died in 1985[2].
- ???? - Two children, Peter Anderson Callaway and Elizabeth Woodson Callaway[3].
- 1992 - Died August 10, 1992 in Napa, California of an inoperable brain tumor[4].

- 1932 - Joined classified advertising department, Conde Nast Publications Inc[5].
- 1937 - Joined Time, Inc. (where he worked until 1962). He was successively a salesman for Time, Time International's first advertising director, advertising director of Fortune magazine and advertising director of Sports Illustrated, working out of Chicago, Detroit and New York[6].
- 1963 January - Named Publisher, Newsweek by Philip L. Graham, recently acquired by Graham's Washington Post Company.[7].
