Public Meeting.
A meeting of the friends of GENERAL JOSEPH SMITH of Nauvoo, Ill as a candidate for the Presidency, was held in Fifth street, New York, on the evening of the 28th inst.
J. T. Ball Esq., was called to the Chair, and Wm. H. Miles Esq. chosen Clerk.
C. W. Wandall, Esq., stated the object of the meeting in his usual happy style, and suggested the propriety of holding a State Convention of the friends of GEN. JOSEPH SMITH.
- On motion,
- Resolved. That a State Convention of the friends of GEN. SMITH be called at Utica, Oneida, Co. N. Y., on the 23d of August.
- On motion,
- Resolved. That the friends of GEN. SMITH be requested to organize in every part of the State immediately, and send delegates to the Convention at Utica.
- On motion,
- Resolved. That Electors favorable to the election of GEN SMITH to the Presidency, be selected by his friends in each Electoral district of the State and submit the same to the Utica Convention.
- On motion,
- Resolved. That a Committee of three be appointed to call a meeting of the friends of GEN. SMITH in the City of New York,
- Whereupon, Messrs. Wright, Wyckoff, and Brannan were appointed.
- On motion,
- Resolved. That the minutes of this meeting be published in the New York Prophet, Times and Seasons, Nauvoo Neighbor and other papers.
- After several very spirited and appropriate speeches by S. Brannan, Esq., G. T. Leech, Esq., Messrs. Curtis, Gwatkins, and Wright, the meeting adjourned.
