Why We Need Contributions

Like all local history, the history of the LDS Church in New York City is largely unknown. Members attend Church for years, experience a wide variety of things, and see a lot of changes in the Church and in their lives. Unfortunately, the vast majority of these things are not recorded. Even the official histories prepared by local Church units are often incomplete and sometimes are never even prepared.

As mundane as many members believe their lives to be, few lives carefully examined are truely mundane. Beyond our personal dramas, which are many times as fascinating as the most significant international events, we all experience what turn out to be significant events simply by observation, if not through involvement. And our observation, participation and reaction to events are the stuff of history.

So we need to know what members experienced; their journals, recollections and records. We need the documentation, photos, etc. that individual members sometimes keep, but that organizations often dismiss. We need the collections and compilations of amateur historians like ourselves. And we need the assistance, writing and histories produced by professional historians.

How to Contribute

Contributions can be made through this site, by email or other electronic means, or through conventional shipping. Materials given may be copies or donated originals. The committee does not have resources to purchase materials.

The most straightforward way to contribute is to simply start a new page] on the website and add the text of your contribution on that page.
