Dear NYC LDS History, My grandfather, Walter Peter Monson, was the president of the Eastern States Mission during WWI, when the mission home was on 133rd St. I think it was 1914 - 1919, but I need to check the exact dates.

He purchased the property at Gates and Franklin in Brooklyn for the church. He managed the construction of the mission home and chapel. He and his family then moved into the new mission home. My father's early memories were of life in the mission in Harlem and Brooklyn.

Before they built the Brooklyn chapel, they held church meetings in the Apollo Theater in Harlem.

As I gather and organize more of the family histories I inherited, I can add more specific content to this site.

Thank you, Kris Monson Westover
