Last Sunday we had the pleasure

The Prophet v1n11 27 July 1844 pg 2

Last Sunday we had the pleasure of listening to the eloquence of Elder Adams, who had just arrived from Nauvoo by express, to bear the intelligence and the particulars in relation to the death of our beloved brethren in the West, and we were happy to find in him the same exebition of firmness, and perseverance of character, which has heretofore been the remark of both the just and the unjust; his discourse could not have fallen short of three hours in length, the fore part of which in his unusual eloquent style exhibited the primitive organization of the kingdom and also its dissolution; he closed by giving a minute relation of the facts connected with the death of the Prophet and Patriarch of the Church of Christ, the love and esteem of the congregation for the martyrs was truly manifested on the occasion, for we did not see one present that refused to drop a tear of mourning. We have understood that the council recommend his tarrying for a season n the eastern country; if so he will remember his old friends no doubt in the New York, particularly the New York Prophet.
