Campbell's Remarks on Mormonism

We published some weeks since, by request, the Boston Editor's preface to Mr. Campbell's Review of the "Book of Mormon." In this preface was the following statement, in reference to those who have gone to join the Mormon settlement.

"Two individuals who have gone, are defenceless females. They had acquired by their hard industry $2,300, one of them having $800, the other $1,500, which they have given up to go into the general stock. One of these females was in a consumption, and her friends thought she would not live to reach her destined place."

We have been requested by a person who says that one of the females alluded to was a sister, to state that the amount of this sister's property was only $120, instead of $800, no part of which has been given into the Mormon treasury; and that though she has united with the church of God called Mormons, she has not gone with a view to join the Missouri settlement at present, but will reside with friends in Ohio, with the hope of benefitting her health, which was such when she left Boston that she was able to do a days' work at sewing. Though declining, she was not at that time so far reduced as to affect her mind, or to disqualify her to judge and act for herself.

As the differences in these two statements do not affect the principle involved in the first, they should undoubtedly be attributed to misinformation and not to error of intention.
