The Mormons.

Niles National Register, v6 n25, 17 August 1839, p. 400

The Mormons. Some disciples of John Smith have established themselves in the neighborhood of New Egypt, and in other places, in Monmouth, N. J. They first appeared there some six months ago. They have made converts of several persons of some standing and influence; and strange as the story seems, their numbers are increasing.
