Sculptor Sketches at Danbury Fair
Mahonri M. Young, of Ridgefield, internationally famous sculptor and grandson of Brigham Young, Mormon leader, makes sketches oof oxen at the weight-pulling contest at the Danbury Fair. Commissioned in 1946 by the State of Utah to do the heroic statue of his famous forebear which stands at the entrance of Emigration canyon, on the outskirts of Salt Lake City, Mr. Young won national acclaim for this masterpiece. The draft beasts which hauled pioneering Mormons across the continent are the subject of perennial study by Mr. Young.
