City and Suburban News

New York Times, 4 November 1884, pg 8.

The steamship City of Berlin, which arrived Sunday, brought a party of 90 Mormon immigrants, who started yesterday for Utah by the Erie Railway. These Mormons belonged to a party of several hundred converts who were booked to sail by the Guion steamship Nevada, but owing to the fire on that vessel their plans had to be changed. The remainder will come on the Arizona, which will be due here next Sunday evening.

Letter from C. A. Ek

Ek, C.A., [Letter] Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star. 46:46 (November 17, 1884), p. 731.

Elder C.A. Ek, who was appointed to take charge of the company of Scandinavian emigrants who sailed from here on the City of Berlin on the 23 ultimo, writes to us from New York on the 2nd instant, as follows:

"We landed at the docks at 11:30 a.m. today, where Brother J. H. Hart met us, and arranged matters so that none of our trunks were opened. Will leave tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock. We are all well, and thankful to the Lord that we are again on land. When we look back on our journey, and consider the season of the year, we think we have had a quick, pleasant and agreeable trip. We have been treated kindly in every respect. Nobody has shown us any disrespect whatever, although it was known who we were."
