Brooklyn accountant, teacher of accounting and author of an accounting textbook who joined the LDS Church. He was made a Lt. General in the Nauvoo Legion, but apparently never participated in the Legion. Immediately after the death of Joseph Smith he traveled to Nauvoo as a reporter for the New York Sun, the penny paper that was widely known as the first "scandal sheet." Bennett reported on the martyrdom and the subsequent difficulties before returning to New York.
