Satan's Sieve

New York Evangelist, v11 n50, 12 December 1840, p. 198.

SATAN'S SIEVE.

This is a fearful and a curious instrument. He has been suffered for ages to use it among the people of God! He seems anxious, knowing that he can have only the chaff, to distinguish it from the wheat, at least so far that he can tell the difference as fast as possible. With respect to immoral professors, he has but little concern. An easy prey to his devices, he can leave them to his agents.

If we cast our eyes over the churches, we shall at once be struck with the progress of development which has already been made. In one case, we were called to watch over a man, as a pastor, for two years, whose tendencies were strong towards this error, and who has at length gone beyond all care for the Sabbath, the mmistry, and the church of God. In another case, one who had adopted this error, and who utterly disclaimed all sympathy with ultra perfectionism, was finally excluded from the church for covenant-breaking, and has become a Mormon preacher!
