New York Evangelist, v12 n52, 25 December 1841, p. 206.

LITERARY NOTICES.

Gleanings by the Way.—By Rev. John A. Clark,uthor of the "Pastor's Testimony," "Young Disciple," &c. Philadelphia: W. J. & J. K. Simon. New-York: J. S. Taylor & Co. 1842.

The accomplished author of this work has been accustomed to repair his health and energies by an annual journey—the records of one of which—to the glorious West—is here given. Few writers weild a more graphic pen than Dr. Clark. His kindly views of men and things—his ready appreciation of the beautiful—his fine taste and pure feeling, fit him admirably to be a tourist.—Over a third of the volume is occupied with a clear, full, and in many respects, novel account of the Mormon's and their strange delusions. A better sketch of the error is nowhere else to be found.
