Elder Nickerson, the Mormon, going ahead--The Ladies and Sandy Welch.
Elder Nickerson informed me this forenoon, that he should make a great stir in Boston during the ensuing week. The Elder is one of Joe Smith's most zealous apostles. He says he has engaged Boylston Hall, and shall hold a series of meetings, to endeavor to wake up the drowsy spirits. he talks of engaging Dr. Collyer to perform the miracles--heal the sick and raise the dead. The prophet Miller is at Newburyport, preparing the pious citizens of that place for the "final consummation of all things," which, from various signs in this neighborhood, it is evident is near at hand. Let the wicked stand from under.
The Washingtonians are to have a mass meeting at Faneuil Hall to night. Sandy Welch is to speak. He is quite a lion here, and is said to be very popular among the ladies. Last night he spoke at Marlbro' Chapel, and urged the dear creatures, in his peculiarly eloquent manner, to sign the pledge. He says they must do it, and then there will be no fear of the gentlemen, as they always follow the ladies whereever they go, and imitate whatever they do. A huge paw from New Hampshire also addressed the meeting. He goes ahead of Hawkins, who is now a mere ninny in comparison with scores the Temperance revival has "woke up."
