Mormons In New Jersey -- their Political Affinities August 12, 1856, Wednesday Page 3, 176 words

An August 8th report from the Newark Daily Advertiser says that a Mormon church is in full operation in Tom's River, New Jersey. The report says that the number of members is quite large and is increasing, and that they have resident preachers as well as priests that regularly visit from Salt Lake City and from New York. The report also says that they unanimously support Fillmore for U.S. President because of his appointment of Brigham Young as Governor of Utah and for his "official acts generally in regard to that Territory."
