The Herald of yesterday

New York Tribune, 23 May 1857, p. 4

The Herald of yesterday declares that "no journal has a corespondent in Utah at the present time." This is no doubt true of The Herald, which has for some time been falling into a sort of decrepitude which renders it comparatively worthless as a newspaper. In the days when that journal was still conducted with some energy, it would not have been necessary for it to make such a confession. We are happy to inform our cotemporary, however, that THE TRIBUNE has a correspondent in Utah, and a most capable and trustworthy one. We can add, also, that the Mormon leaders have been very anxious to find him out, but hitherto he has forwarded his letters in spite of them. By carefully perusing and copying his correspondence, The Herald will be able to keep its readers well informed touching the progress of events in that Territory.
