Theatrical Affairs

There is just at present little or nothing doing in the theatrical world which calls for critical comment. Managers are hunting for actors and actors for managers, and in a few weeks, doubtless, many new companies will be organized; but while the dog star reigns the theatrical stars follow the hegira of their patrons to the watering places, or make trips to the provinces. Nevertheless, the "can't-get-aways" must be amused, and some of the theatres are doing their best to amuse them.

At Wallack's the burlesque of "Laila Rookh" grows more and more laughable and attractive. The imitation of M. Blondin's tight rope performances at Niagara is inexpressibly funny. "Liala Rookh" will be continued all this week, and besides, "The Irish Mormon" is to be revived. Mr. and Mrs. Florence are the great attractions. When the Florences close it is said Mr. H. L. Bateman will resume the management, and present as a star Matilda Heron Stoejel. Her engagement is to be inaugurated on the 22d, with a new play written by a lady.
