Another Large Mormon Emigration

New York Herald, 11 June 1860, p. 8
From Liverpool Mercury.

Another Large Mormon Emigration from Liverpool.—Not long since we noticed the departure of upwards of 500 of the followers of Brigham Young and Joe Smith from this port in the packet ship Underwriter for New York. We have now to report the sailing of the ship William Tapscott, belonging to Messrs. Tapscott, Smith & Co., Oldhall street, for New York, with no less than 811 of these misguided beings en route for the Mormon settlement, Great Salt Lake, Utah Territory, United States. These 811 souls represent 681 adults; 125 were married male and 175 married female adults, 80 were male and 92 female children, and 18 male and 26 female infants. Their nationality was as follows:—354 English, 22 Scotch, 35 Irish and 400 foreigners, the great proportion of the latter being Germans. They were all of respectable appearance. — Liverpool Mercury.
