On Sunday last, Orson Pratt

New York Dispatch, 9 February 1861, p. 4

On Sunday last, Orson Pratt, of Utah, one of the "big guns" of the Mormon Church, preached to his followers in Williamsburgh. The Odeon was engaged for the occasion, and was filled to its utmost capacity. Secession was the subject of Mr. Pratt's story. This country was bound to go to the devil anyhow and Mormonism was the only thing that could save it. He said the present political troubles of the United States had been predicted in the Book of Mormon, from the beginning to the end, and that the best thing the people could do in their present troubles was to join the Mormon Church and emigrate to Utah.
