Large Arrival of Mormons

New York Times, 20 June 1861, p. 5, col. 4

The ship Monarch of the Sea, Capt. GARDNER, arrived at this port yesterday from Liverpool, having a general cargo and 954 Mormon passengers. This is the largest number of Mormons that ever arrived at this port in one vessel. They are all in fine health, and will leave to-morrow for Utah or Salt Lake City, where they intend to settle. Capt. GARDNER informs us that the most perfect order and discipline is maintained, among this class of passengers.

Great credit is due to Elders JAREZ WOODWARD, (Principal,) H.O. HANSEN, NIEL WILLIAMSON and others for good management and kind attention to the comforts of this large company, who are under their especial care.

The Monarch of the Sea has on board WM. BROWN, and BRADFORD SEGRO, sent home by the American Consul for attempt to murder.
