COMMISSIONERS OF EMIGRATION. -- At a regular meeting of this Board, yesterday, President VERILANCE in the chair, a communication was presented by the General Agent from an Englishman named HENRY HASLAM, in which he states that he was persuaded to leave England for Utah by the Mormons, and after paying 3 16s, passage for each member of his family, he was induced by Mormon Elders to pay £118, for other passengers not belonging to his family. When he got as far as Florence, in Nebraska Territory, he discovered that the Mormon Elders were trying to persuade his wife to abandon him. This opened his eyes to the beauties of Mormonism, and he took the back track, arriving here penniless and is now at Castle Garden awaiting a remittance from England to enable him to return home. The communication was placed on file. Little other business was transacted by the Board. The following is the weekly statement: Emigrants arrived during the past week, 703, making a total of 46,646 since first of January last. The number arrived during the same period last year was 51,862. Number of inmates in the institution on Ward's Island, 641. The receipt into be he treasury of the Commission during the past week has been $2846 55. Total since Jan. 1, $114,925.65. Balance on hand at date, $14,674.
