A New Comic Opera

New York Tribune, 10 April 1880, p. 5

The new comic opera by Mr. Dudley Buck and Mr. Wm. A. Croffut has been secured by Mr. Haverly for his theatre in Fourteenth-st. and will be brought out at that establishment on the 11th of October. The story deals with Mormonism, a subject which must have afforded an ample opportunity for the indulgence of Mr. Croffut's well-known vein of humor. Mr. Buck's name is a sufficient guarantee of the good quality of the music, for he never writes trash. He has a fertile and graceful fancy, dramatic instincts, a command of the animated rhythmic forms which are so important for light opera, and a mastery over the orchestra.
