A Compilation of General Voyage Notes

� They all sailed from Liverpool, April 9th, on the steamer 'Nevada,' which arrived in New York on the 19th in the evening. The next day (April 20th) the emigrants were landed at the Castle Garden and on Monday, April 21st, they left New York by train westbound for Utah. �

SS Nevada, April 19. A beautiful morning. I felt very well. Had a good breakfast and then at my work again. Today we seen several steamers. The steamer "Oregon" passed us this day noon. It made the trip across from Queenstown to New York in 6 days, 8 hours, and 20 minutes. Pilot came on board this morning. Now 9 o'clock in the evening. In the river, lights all around.

SS Nevada, April 20. Pretty morning, all busy [p. 121] for officers. After the custom officers came on board, they took our names seen to the luggage they was very tolerable. At 12 midday, was landed in Castle Garden. Stayed there Sunday all day. Nothing off our side occurred.

New York, April 21, 84 Another beautiful day. Brother [-] and I bought a lot of provisions and at 6:00 p.m. we left for New Jersey. We boarded the train and was off at 9:30 for our journey.

� This morning at 7:30 the pilot came on board. At 11:30 the "Oregon" came along in a hurry; she passed us and was out of sight in a little while.

April 20th.--This morning, at 7 o'clock, we were inspected by the doctor and none were quarantined. At 8 we came up to the pier, and Brother [James] Hart came on board and bid us welcome. The custom's officers examined our luggage, opening only a few boxes, and at 11:30 we were all through with them, and transferred safely to Castle Garden.

We expect to leave New York tomorrow at 4 p.m. We are making arrangements for provisions. The money for the purchase of them has been paid to Brothers [Henry] Manning and [A.] Amundsen, and they have already made bargains for some of our necessities. �
