Mormon Immigration

Mr. Mulholland, Chief Contract Labor Inspector, thinks he may arrest the progress of a number of Swedes and Danes who are, expected to arrive here soon on their way to Utah, by reason of the law forbidding contract labor.

A batch of new converts to Mormonism has already arrived here from Sweden, but the apostle who had them in charge was very wary in his answers as soon as he discovered the Inspector's object in questioning him. Mr. Mulholland thinks there is an implied contract entered upon by these converts with the Mormon elders, and the decision of Judge Lacombe permits foreigners to be detained who have made even this engagement.

Mormonism really seems to have received a blow, and if new recruits can be barred on some legal point, it will be a benefit to the country. Since the last election in Utah, when the Gentiles carried the day, everything has boomed. Mr, Mulholland's scheme may be a good one.
