Utahns Receive Degrees in Dietetics
- By Jean D. Griffith
Utah was well represented at the commencement exercises of Columbia University on Wednesday. Miss Sally Ann Clark, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew T. Clark of Salt Lake City, received a master's degree in dietetics. Miss Clark will leave shortly to return to Salt lake, where she will fill an appointment at the University of Utah Union Building as head of Food service.
Marian Bennion, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Bennion, of Delta, Utah, received her master's degree, also in dietetics.
Donna Radavich, of Midvale, Utah, attended the graduation ceremony, and reports that it was most impressive.
Woodruff, Janet, daughter of the D. O. Woodruffs of Salt Lake, received her master's degree in retailing from New York University on June 10.
Shirley Strong will leave shortly for Salt Lake City and a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Strong. Shirley has recently been appointed a buyer for the huge Ohrbach store in downtown Manhattan.
One of the most excited young ladies in New York these days is Miss Janet Jeppson, daughter of John R. and Rae Knudson Jeppson, of New Rochelle. Together with a group of young ladies her age, she will take a sightseeing trip to Europe. Janet says she plans to take in all the places she's always heard of, read about, and longed to see, including England, Scotland, France, Switzerland and Italy. A graduate of Stanford University, she has just completed her first year in medicine at the New York University-Bellevue Medical School.
Surprises never cease in New York. We were pleased last Sunday to see Rowland and Clara (Orton) Corry and young son Larry in Westchester Branch's Sunday School. It seems that the Corrys have come to New York to make their home. Former residents of Berkeley, Calif., they have been fortunate enough to find an apartment in Fleetwood, New York. Rowland is with Aramco (Arabian American Oil Company.)
John and Eva Christensen, of Ossining, New York, with their four children, left by auto on Saturday for Provo, Utah. Eva and the children will spend the summer in Provo. John will return to New York after three weeks, and will journey to Utah again in the early fall, to accompany the family back to Ossining.
Olive and Lloyd Harris, of Floral Park, Long Island, had as their recent house guests Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Overlade, of Terra Haute, Ind. Mrs. Overlade (Maza Lloyd) is Olive's sister.
Folks here are excited about the Church of the Air Broadcast planned for June 19, for it will originate in Manhattan. The Manhattan Ward Choir, under the very able direction of James McConkie, will be featured.
Just prior to the Doug Clawson's departure for Utah, he was entertained at luncheon at the New York Athletic Club by the officers of the University of Utah Alumni Association of New York. Doug was relieved of his duties as vice-president, and G. Stanley McAllister was chosen to take his place. Also present were De Witt Paul, Mark Gardner, Frank Forsberg.
Starr and Ernie (Neff Nelson of New Jersey, left last week for a visit in Salt Lake City and Brigham City. With them were two precious little bundles, Christopher and John, who arrived very recently at the Nelson home. The Nelsons plan to be away for about three weeks.
And speaking of very small fry, I was just about to slip this into the mail when I learned the good news that Bill and Jean Little are the proud parents of a baby girl. Young Monty joins in the happiness, for a baby sister is just what he ordered.
Bessie Smith entertained at the Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, N. Y. at a luncheon-baby shower for Phoebe Stringham. The guests were seated at one long table, centered by a beautiful boquet of garden flowers, Canterbury bells, Japanese iris, peony buds, and delphinium.
The ladies who did the showering included Moreho Allred Decker, June Woodruff Stewert, Eleanor Call Neeley, Konda Atkisson, Velma West, Elma Skelton Stoddard, Helen Darling, Vilda Saynor, Eva Haglund, Mary Wooley Bennion, Jane Young Rawson, Lyla Foster Ishoy, Ada Hasler Miller, and Rae Knudson Jeppson.
