Europe Beckons Travelers
- By Jean D. Griffith
New Yorkers aren't all heading West. Many are going "East" this summer, beckoned by European shores. Charles and Aleen Harding of Mahasset, Long Island, left recently for a trip to London and Paris. They went by plane, but plan to return by boat.
Peirce Brady left on Sunday for a three weeks' stay in Europe. This is a business trip for Peirce, who is president of the Pan American Trade Development Corporation. The Bradys, who lived formerly in South Norwalk, Conn., have just bought a home in Crestwood, N. Y.
Glen Brewer, the handsome young Bishop of the Manhattan Ward and his pretty wife are Europe-bound also, come June 30. We understand that this is a "for fun" trip.
The Harvey Fletchers of Summit, N. J., are having their share of excitement these days. They, too, leave for Europe on July 7 for a six weeks' tour. Dr. Fletcher will attend a meeting of the Otological Society in London on July 15. After a tour of the continent, they will be joined by their son, Paul, who will have completed a mission to Scotland, and who will accompany them back to their home in New Jersey. Paul, who received his B. A. degree in Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology just prior to receiving his mission call, plans to attend the University of Utah this fall to do graduate work and some teaching.
The Fletchers have just returned from Boston, where they attended the graduation exercises at MIT. Their son, Robert C. Fletcher, obtained his Doctor's Degree in Philosophy.
The Fletchers will go again to Boston this week to attend a convention of the American Physical Society. Dr. Fletcher will be among the past presidents of the society, who are being especially honored on this occasion.
Mary Creer Shaver, of Morristown, N. J., has as her house guests Howard Jennie (Creer) Stoddard, of Lansing, Mich., and Louisa Creer Madsen of Salt Lake City. Mrs. Stoddard, together with her two children, and her mother, plans to leave shortly for a trip to Europe.
Ike and June Stewart have just returned to Scarsdale, N. Y., from Washington, D. C. It was a business-pleasure trip according to June—business for Ike, pleasure for June. While in the capital city they attended a birthday party for Ike's brother, George Stewart.
The Stewarts entertained at a dinner party on Friday evening. Honored guests were Arthur Neeley and Ruth Hollrock, who will be married in the fall. The guests included Dr. and Mrs. Ambrose P. Merrill, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Bergstrom, Mr. and Mrs. David Paine, Mr. and Mrs. William F. Hollrock, Mr. and Mrs. William F. Hollrock Jr., Jack Hollrock, Iwe Stewart Jr., Charles Stewart, and June and Kitole Stewart.
Another New Yorker who spent the week in Washington is Geraldine (Kirkham) Monson, of Flushing, Long Island. Gerry visited her brother and his wife, Grant and June (Hodges) Kirkham. Gerry's husband, Dr. Keyne P. Monson, assumed a new role when he doubled as baby-sitter for the small-fry, Brad and Susan, during their Mom's absence.
