From New York City LDS History
Jump to: navigation, search

Greetings. I am an Associate Professor at BYU in the Department of Communications. I have both a personal and a professional interest in New York City LDS History. My personal interest is that my third great grandmother (Susannah Gazey Beers) lived in NYC for several years beginning in 1834. I have been looking into the neighborhoods in which she lived. At some point she joined the LDS Church, and traveled with the first group of Saints that entered the Salt Lake valley in 1848. I am wondering how she encountered the church, and assuming that she did so in New York City. Professionally, I am interested in Mormon publications printed in NYC in the 19th century. I recently have posted an on-line timeline of Mormon media history that might be of interest to your members. Go to: http://lib.byu.edu/sites/scholarsarchive/mormon-media-studies. I look forward to all I can learn from your site and from your group. I have purchased your book, and very much appreciate the work you are doing.
