From New York City LDS History
A long article subtitled "A Defence of Polygamy" covers the regular Sunday meeting of the Mormon Church in Grand Street, Eastern District of Brooklyn, which was attended by both the regular congregation and a party of converts recently arrived from England.
The article noted that the meeting was presided over by an Elder Potts and featured a lengthy description of the sermon by Elder Thomas Curtis, a missionary recently arrived from Salt Lake City. The lengthy sermon discussed the doctrines of the Church and defended the practice of polygamy.
