The Brooklyn Daily Eagle was published from 1841 to 1955. There was probably an LDS presence in Brooklyn for the bulk of those years.
The Brooklyn Public Library has produced a database[1] containing the full text of the newspaper through 31 December 1902 (as of 1 January 2007). The library expects to eventually include the remaining years of the newspaper's run.
As of January 2007, a search of the newspaper archives available yielded 2,599 articles that mention the word "Mormon". While many of the references use "Mormon" as a simile or metaphor, and are therefore not likely to be interesting to the historian of Mormonism, many others are very interesting. Only a minority refer to Mormonism in the New York City region, but most of those articles are priceless in the study of Mormons in the city.
