The Brooklyn Daily Eagle was published from 1841 to 1955, and there probably was an LDS presence in Brookly for the bulk of those years.
The Brooklyn Public Library has produced a database[[1]] containing the full text of the newspaper through 31 December 1902 (as of 1 January 2007). The library expects to eventually include the remaining years of the newspaper's run.
As of January 2007, a search of the newspaper archives available yielded 2,599 articles that mention the word "Mormon". While many of the references use "Mormon" as a simile or metaphor, and are therefore not likely to be interesting to the historian of Mormonism, many others are very interesting. Only a minority refer to Mormonism in the New York City region, but most of those articles are priceless in the study of Mormons in the city.
